Harold Mason Ford, Sr. Obituary

Elkins Park, PA - Harold Mason Ford, Sr., 66, of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, December 19, 2024. He was born on June 1, 1958, the second son of the late James Ford, Sr. and Dorothy M. Dorsey.

Harold grew up in Washington, DC, where he attended Phelps High School. Later, he attended the University of the District of Columbia where he earned his food license certification. Harold had a diverse and dynamic career as a cook, mechanic, counselor, and skilled laborer. Before moving to Pennsylvania, he worked at Central Union Mission in Washington, DC where he worked in the Men's Ministry and in the kitchen. He also worked for twenty years at United Parcel Service (UPS) at Philadelphia International Airport until his retirement in 2021. Both Central Union Mission and UPS held a special place in his heart.

Harold was an extremely gregarious, big-hearted, sometimes boisterous and often stubborn man, who truly loved people, good food, and life in general. He was sometimes larger than life, but always genuine. Anyone who has had the privilege of knowing him will never forget his laugh, kindness, or sincerity.

Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin, and parents, James and Dorothy Ford. He is survived by his wife, Fran; his children, LaShawn, Harold Jr., and Eric; his brothers James and Linwood, his sister Mary; and a host of grandchildren, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at Central Union Mission, 65 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC on Friday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to his favorite charity, Central Union Mission.
